INTRODUCTION:
Hair is an important part of who we are.
The average person has five million hairs (100,000 – 150,000 are on the scalp)
hair is composed of keratin hair are produced by a small structure underneath
the skin called the hair follicles. Hair follicles are formed while we are
still a fetus, and after we are born no new follicles are produced each hair
grows in series of phase in the growth phase hair is continually growing for up
to five year. (1)These are three phase of hair growthAnagen
is the first phase which is a growing phase and also very active. The second
one which is Cartagena is a phase that is naturally hair cycle. It’s also a
period when hair begins to break down continuously. (2)The last one
is called Telogen. Under this phase the hair doesn’t
grow.
Ayurveda is a form of alternative
medicine originated in India. Today Ayurveda is
emerging as a safe and effective way of treating several ailments including
hair loss. The advantage of Ayurveda treatment, as
opposed to traditional allopathic treatment, is that it does not cause any side
effects in human body. The treatment is also more cost effective than most
other traditional methods of hair loss treatments and hair transplant surgeries.Hair loss, according to Ayurveda,
is caused by excess of "pitta" in our body.
(3)Main causes of pitta are higher intake
of oily and spicy foods as well as consumption of excessive tea, coffee, and
alcohol. Smoking is also a major culprit for abnormal pitta
level in our body.Hair loss may also be caused by
anemia, general weakness following a disease, anxiety, stress, intake of too
much medication and low blood circulation. Ayurveda
also cites hormonal imbalance, chronic diseases like typhoid fever and presence
of dandruff as other major reasons for hair loss. (4)
Cause of hair fall:
1.
Trauma, prolonged exposure to radiation therapy, burns and
surgery. (5)
2.
A variety of prescription drugs have also been found to trigger
excessive shedding. These include ulcer drugs, anti-coagulants,
anti-depressants, beta blockers, blood thinners and Parkinson medications.
3.
Poor diet also plays a large contributing role in hair loss. A
diet low in vitamins A, C, E and B12 has been known to result in brittle,
unhealthy hair that is prone to breakage and falling out.
4.
Due to societal pressures, women are especially vulnerable to the
social discomfort and even emotional trauma associated with early hair loss.
(6)
OBJECTIVE:
The
objective of the current survey is to explore the available brand in the market, which brand is most acceptable and what is
the composition of brand that is used in the treatment of hair loss.
MATERIALS
AND METHODS:
The study is a part of field survey. In
this survey data collected from different outlets like medical store, general
store and fancy store(100) with the help of questionnaires. (7)

FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION:
Ø
It has been found that out of 22 brands sesa oil, keshking oil, Parachute
oils, are the most available brands in market.
(table 1)It has been also found that shampoos like Head & Shoulder Shampoo,
Sesa Shampoo, Clinic plus Shampoo, and Sunsilk Shampoo are most available in market for the
treatment of hair loss. Also found that Aloevera, Amla, Bahera, Bhringraj
Brahmi, Harra, Mehndi, Neem, OliveOil,
Shikakai, yastiMadhu are
the most useful herbal drugs in the hair oil preparation.(table 2)
Ø
Some maintain that the balding process is mainly the effect of
hereditary factors that can be inherited from either one of an individual's
parents; although a person may even have a predisposition towards hair loss if
both of his or her parents had full heads of hair.
Ø
This is due to a process known as spontaneous mutation, whereby
the genetic information changes at conception.
Ø
Although hair loss in women can be contributed to a range of
environmental stressors including (but not limited to) hormonal, nutritional,
drug-associated, or stress-associated factors, the most common cause is androgenetic alopecia, a genetic sensitivity to the effect
males hormones (called androgens) have on hair follicles.
Ø
Hair products—from shampoos and conditioners to wax and mousse—do
not cause hair loss.
We can use these
products as often as we like. We don’t need to use our shampoo or conditioner
in rotation to prevent hair loss. In fact, it is recommended that we shampoo
our hair every day.
CONCLUSION:
Hair loss may also be caused by anemia,
general weakness following a disease, anxiety, stress, intake of too much
medication and low blood circulation. Ayurveda also
cites hormonal imbalance, chronic diseases like typhoid fever and presence of
dandruff as other major reasons for hair loss. Ayurveda
considers hair as a byproduct of bone formation. The tissues from which the
bones are formed are responsible for the growth of your hair. Hair loss is more
common in people who have straight and blonde hair. They are also more likely
to gray faster than thick and coarse hair.
There are so many brands are available with
different types of treatments for hair loss. Depending on the causes of the hair
loss, remedies may be prescribed. In general, a combination of treatment that
includes herbal medicines and oil massages along with a proper diet regime and
stress-relieving practices like yoga and meditation can be the perfect solution
to hair loss.
